Target Information
The alpha-1b adrenoceptor is an adrenergic receptor that mediates smooth muscle contraction, regulating vascular tone and blood pressure, and contributes to atherosclerosis development. Reduced expression is associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This receptor can function as a proto-oncogene, inducing neoplastic transformation when constitutively activated. It is expressed in adrenal, aorta, brain regions, eye, heart, kidney, liver, prostate, spinal cord, and spleen tissues. ESTs have been identified from kidney (normal and cancer) and lung carcinoma libraries.
