Target Information

CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase that forms an active holoenzyme complex with Cyclin T1, regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. Coexpressed and copurified with Cyclin T1, CDK9 facilitates promoter recognition of transcription factors and promotes RNA synthesis involved in cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis. The CDK9/Cyclin-K complex exhibits kinase activity toward CTD of RNAPII and can substitute for CDK9/Cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 causes cardiac myocyte enlargement, leading to cardiac hypertrophy and predisposition to heart failure.
