Target Information

Ribosomes are the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPS6 gene encodes a cytoplasmic ribosomal protein that is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It is a major substrate of ribosomal protein kinases, with phosphorylation occurring on five C-terminal serine residues in response to various stimuli such as growth factors and mitogens.
Phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of RPS6 are linked to cell growth and proliferation, possibly through selective translation of specific mRNA classes. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
