Target Information

F4/80 antigen is a 160 kDa cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the EGF TM7 family of proteins and shares 68% overall amino acid identity with human EMR1.
Expression of F4/80 varies during macrophage maturation and activation. It is found on mature tissue macrophages including Kupffer cells, Langerhans cells, microglia, macrophages in the gut lamina propria, peritoneal cavity, lung, thymus, bone marrow stroma, and red pulp of the spleen.
F4/80 is also expressed on some dendritic cells but absent from macrophages in T cell areas of spleen and lymph node.
Its ligands and biological functions are not fully determined, but studies suggest involvement in generation of efferent CD8⁺ regulatory T cells.
