Target Information

Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type 1 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40–43 kDa. It is expressed in various tumors and normal cells, notably lymphatic epithelial cells and follicular dendritic cells. PDPN localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells.

As a regulator of lymphatic endothelium, podoplanin likely contributes to maintaining the unique morphology of podocytes. It serves as a ligand for CLEC-2, and its expression correlates with tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. PDPN is involved in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor invasion. Expression is induced via Src activation of Cas, and recent findings suggest PDPN presence on Th17 cells. Studies indicate PDPN expression on a subset of CD4+ cells from human PBMCs. Dysfunction of PDPN has been associated with diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottis neoplasm. It is also proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological role.
