Target Information
UNC119 gene is specifically expressed in retinal photoreceptors.
The encoded protein shares strong homology with the C. elegans unc119 protein and can functionally complement its mutation.
Localized to photoreceptor synapses in the outer plexiform layer, it may play a role in photoreceptor neurotransmitter release via the synaptic vesicle cycle.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
