Target Information
LSD1 is a histone demethylase that specifically demethylates Lys-4 of histone H3, a marker for epigenetic transcriptional activation, functioning as a corepressor. It contains SWIRM, FAD-binding, and amine oxidase domains. LSD1 participates in histone deacetylase complexes and demethylates mono- and tri-methylated Lys-4 of histone H3. It requires RCOR1/CoREST for nucleosome demethylation and can also demethylate Lys-9 of histone H3, contributing to androgen receptor gene derepression. Mutations in LSD1 are associated with cleft palate and psychomotor retardation.
