Target Information
The TRIB2 gene encodes one of three members of the Tribbles family. These proteins share a Trb domain homologous to protein serine-threonine kinases but lack the active site lysine, likely resulting in no catalytic function. Tribbles proteins interact with and modulate signal transduction pathways involved in various physiological and pathological processes. This member induces apoptosis primarily in hematopoietic cells and is upregulated by inflammatory stimuli in myeloid (THP-1) cells. It also acts as an oncogene that inactivates the transcription factor C/EBPalpha, contributing to acute myelogenous leukemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified for this gene.
