The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of human IFN-gamma expressed in E. coli.
Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and NK cells in response to antigens and cytokines.
It is a dimeric glycoprotein consisting of two 146 amino acid subunits (~45 kDa as a homodimer).
On SDS-PAGE, IFN gamma appears as 25, 20, and minor 15.5 kDa bands due to differential glycosylation.
Human IFN gamma shows species-specific activity and does not cross-react with mouse IFN gamma.
Biological Functions:
- Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
- Induction of MHC class I and II
- Macrophage activation
- Enhancement of immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
- Cytokine regulation via JAK-STAT pathway
- Upregulated by IL-2, FGF basic, EGF; downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN
- Mutations associated with aplastic anemia
