Target Information
The secreted protein encoded by this gene is involved in forming a gel matrix that encases ejaculated spermatozoa. Proteolysis by prostate-specific antigen (PSA) breaks down the gel matrix, enabling spermatozoa mobility. The encoded protein is less abundant than a similar semenogelin protein. The genes encoding these two proteins are located in a cluster on chromosome 20.
