Target Information
Keratocan (KTN), also known as keratan sulfate proteoglycan keratocan, is a protein encoded by the KERA gene located on chromosome 12q22. This protein is a keratan sulfate proteoglycan involved in corneal transparency.
Defects in this gene cause autosomal recessive cornea plana 2 (CNA2).
Keratan sulfate proteoglycans (KSPGs), including keratocan, lumican, and mimecan, belong to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family and play key roles in maintaining corneal clarity.
