Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with both free soluble (17 kDa) and membrane-bound (26 kDa) human TNF-alpha. It inhibits the biological activity of both forms and does not react with receptor-bound TNF-alpha.
Target Information
TNF alpha is a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine belonging to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. It is mainly secreted by macrophages and binds to receptors TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR. TNF alpha regulates immune cells, cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and coagulation.
It exists as multimers of two, three, or five noncovalently linked units, showing a single 17 kDa band under non-reducing SDS-PAGE conditions. Knockout studies in mice suggest its neuroprotective functions and tumor necrosis induction in tumor-bearing mice. TNF alpha also plays roles in immune responses to bacterial, viral, parasitic, and fungal infections, and is implicated in autoimmune diseases, insulin resistance, and cancer.
