Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a basic four-polypeptide chain structure composed of two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa and lambda, each ~22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda chains include variable and constant regions, distinguishable by their antigenic properties. The typical kappa-to-lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies against the kappa light chain are useful for identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
