Product Specific Information
- In paraffin sections, antibody pm 43 recognizes only myelin in the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
- In frozen sections, it also reacts with myelin in the central nervous system (CNS).
- Useful for studying myelination and demyelination processes in the PNS, and remyelination processes in the CNS after trauma or in multiple sclerosis.
- Reacts with a 43 kD protein in immunoblotting.
- Positive control: Peripheral nerve.
Target Information
Myelin is a membrane characteristic of nervous tissue and functions as an insulator to increase the velocity of neural signal transmission.
Myelin isolated from human and bovine nervous tissue consists of approximately 80% lipid and 20% protein, with about 30% of the protein fraction being myelin basic protein.
