Target Information
ZO-3 (TJP3) is a member of the membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family and functions as a tight junction-associated protein.
Tight junctions form intercellular boundaries between epithelial and endothelial cells. ZO-3 contributes to both structural and signaling functions and contains PDZ, SH3, and GuK domains.
ZO-1 forms complexes with ZO-2 or ZO-3, and these proteins interact with claudin, occludin, and F-actin to link tight junctions with the actin cytoskeleton.
ZO-1 expression is reduced in many breast cancer cell lines. ZO-2 and ZO-3 are ubiquitously expressed in epithelial tight junctions, while ZO-2 is not expressed in non-epithelial tissue.
