Target Information
FGF13 is part of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, which exhibits broad mitogenic and cell survival activities. FGF family members are involved in embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
The FGF13 gene is located on chromosome X and is associated with Borjeson-Forssman-Lehmann syndrome (BFLS). It is a potential candidate gene for familial BFLS and other X-linked mental retardation syndromes.
Alternative splicing at the 5′ end results in several transcript variants encoding different isoforms with distinct N-termini.
