Target Information

CAMK2B (CaMKII beta) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in synaptic plasticity, synaptic vesicle mobilization, and regulation of gene expression. As a dominant kinase in the central nervous system, it may play roles in long-term potentiation and neurotransmitter release.
There are four CaMKII isozymes (alpha, beta, gamma, delta), which may be co-expressed in various tissue types. CaMKII alpha is autophosphorylated on Thr286 upon Ca²⁺/CaM complex binding, a process known as Ca²⁺/CaM trapping, thought to contribute to synaptic encoding of information.
