Target Information
SNAP29 encodes a product that is a member of the SNAP25 gene family and is involved in multiple membrane trafficking steps. Two other members of this gene family, SNAP23 and SNAP25, encode proteins that bind syntaxin and mediate synaptic vesicle membrane docking and fusion to the plasma membrane. The SNAP29 protein binds tightly to multiple syntaxins and localizes primarily to intracellular membrane structures, though a portion is found free in the cytoplasm. Multiple polyadenylation sites have been observed for this gene.
