Target Information

NTRK2 (TRKB) belongs to the neurotrophic factor family central to the development and maintenance of the mammalian nervous system. It acts as the receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Together, NTRK2 and BDNF regulate short-term synaptic functions and long-term potentiation of brain synapses. TrkB is a tyrosine kinase gene expressed mainly in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Binding of neurotrophins induces phosphorylation of TrkB and downstream MAPK signaling, leading to cell differentiation. Mutations in TrkB are associated with obesity and mood disorders. Multiple splice variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
