Target Information
BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that functions to either inhibit or promote cell death. Members of the BCL-2 family form dimers to modulate apoptosis. Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2, enhancing its anti-apoptotic effect. Bax and Bak promote cytochrome c release from mitochondria, initiating apoptosis. Overexpression of BCL-2 is associated with various cancers, including B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer. Constitutive expression due to translocation to the Ig heavy chain locus is a known cause of follicular lymphoma.
