Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity. They are represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides, ranging in molecular weight from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8.
Individual human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20. Expression patterns of cytokeratin subtypes are characteristic of epithelial types and differentiation stages.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential diagnosis of epithelial malignancies via immunohistochemistry, and are also useful tools in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
