Background
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits include 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL37A gene encodes a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L37AE family. This protein is cytoplasmic and contains a C4-type zinc finger-like domain. As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
