Background

Required for DNA recombination, repair, and replication. RP-A activity is mediated by single-stranded DNA binding and protein interactions.
Phosphorylated in a cell-cycle-dependent manner (from S phase until mitosis) and by ATR upon DNA damage, promoting translocation to nuclear foci.
Can be phosphorylated in vitro by PRKDC/DNA-PK (in presence of Ku and DNA) and by CDC2.
Also present in PML nuclear bodies and redistributes to discrete nuclear foci upon DNA damage.
Forms a heterotrimer of 70, 32, and 14 kDa chains; DNA-binding activity may reside on the 70 kDa subunit.
Interacts with SERTAD3/RBT1 and TIPIN.
