Background

The CD45 protein belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which regulates various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitosis, and oncogenic transformation. It contains an extracellular domain, a single transmembrane segment, and two tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains, classifying it as a receptor-type PTP. CD45 is a key regulator of T- and B-cell antigen receptor signaling and modulates Src family kinases as well as JAK kinases, thereby controlling cytokine receptor signaling. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants.
