Background
Protein tyrosine kinase 6 (PTK6) is a cytoplasmic nonreceptor protein kinase functioning as an intracellular signal transducer in epithelial tissues. Overexpression in mammary epithelial cells sensitizes them to epidermal growth factor, causing partial transformation. Expression is detected at low levels in some breast tumors but not in normal breast tissue. The protein undergoes autophosphorylation, and alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
