Background

Protein tyrosine kinase 2 (PTK2), also known as focal adhesion kinase (FAK), is a cytoplasmic protein tyrosine kinase concentrated in focal adhesions formed between cells and extracellular matrix components. It belongs to the FAK subfamily of protein tyrosine kinases and plays a key role in cell growth and intracellular signal transduction pathways initiated by neural peptides or cell–matrix interactions. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene (RefSeq, Oct 2015).
