Background

Protein tyrosine kinase 2 (PTK2) is a cytoplasmic protein tyrosine kinase concentrated in focal adhesions formed between cells and extracellular matrix components. It belongs to the FAK subfamily of tyrosine kinases and plays a key role in cell growth and intracellular signaling pathways. Activation of PTK2 is an early step in signaling triggered by neural peptides or cell-matrix interactions. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
