Background

This protein belongs to the PAK family of Ser/Thr protein kinases, which act as effectors of Rac/Cdc42 GTPases involved in cytoskeletal dynamics, proliferation, and cell survival signaling.
It contains a CDC42/Rac1 interactive binding (CRIB) motif and binds CDC42 in the presence of GTP.
Predominantly expressed in brain, it promotes neurite outgrowth and may play a role in neurite development.
Associated with microtubule networks, it induces microtubule stabilization.
Subcellular localization is tightly regulated during cell cycle progression.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
