Background
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine-specific kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and play key roles in cellular signaling pathways. They also serve as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Each PKC isoform has distinct expression and function. PKC θ is a calcium-independent, phospholipid-dependent kinase critical for T-cell activation and required for NF-κB and AP-1 transcription factor activation, linking TCR signaling to transcriptional regulation.
