Cellular Localization Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Chromosome (centromere), Cytoskeleton (spindle pole). In prometaphase cells, localizes at centromeres but not in anaphase cells. During mitosis, found at spindle poles. Centromeric localization requires SGO2 presence. (PubMed:16541025)
Background This gene encodes the phosphatase 2A catalytic subunit. Protein phosphatase 2A is one of the four major Ser/Thr phosphatases, implicated in the negative control of cell growth and division. It consists of a heteromeric core enzyme composed of a catalytic subunit and a constant regulatory subunit that associates with various regulatory subunits. This gene encodes an alpha isoform of the catalytic subunit. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
