Target Information

Apoptosis is related to many diseases and development. Cell death signals are transduced by molecules containing death domain (DD), death effector domain (DED), and caspase recruitment domain (CARD). CARD-containing proteins include caspases, Apaf-1, CARD4, IAPs, RICK, ARC, RAIDD, BCL-10, and ASC. CARD8, a novel CARD-containing protein, interacts with DRAL (a p53-responsive protein) and caspase-1 related proteins ICEBERG and pseudo-ICE. Although reports differ on whether CARD8 acts as a pro- or anti-apoptotic protein, it is suggested to function as an adaptor molecule regulating caspase-1 and NF-kappa-B activation.
