Target Information
DUSP6 is a member of the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. These phosphatases inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. They negatively regulate MAP kinase superfamily members (MAPK/ERK, SAPK/JNK, p38), which are associated with cellular proliferation and differentiation.
DUSP6 inactivates ERK2 and is expressed in various tissues, particularly in heart and pancreas. Unlike most family members, it is localized in the cytoplasm. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for the DUSP6 gene.
