Target Information

P-selectin (Selectin P, GMP-140, LECAM3, CD62 antigen-like family member) is a 140 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein that regulates cell rolling. It is stored in Weibel-Palade bodies of endothelial cells and α-granules of platelets, and rapidly translocates to the cell surface upon activation by thrombin, histamine, complement 5a, Ca²⁺ ionophores, or ADP.
During platelet activation and degranulation, P-selectin mediates interactions between activated endothelial cells or platelets and leukocytes. It functions as a calcium-dependent receptor binding to sialylated Lewis carbohydrate antigens on neutrophils and monocytes.
P-selectin is constitutively expressed during inflammation and contributes to atherogenesis, thrombosis, and tissue destruction. Clinically, it is used to distinguish heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with or without thrombosis.
