Specificity: This antibody is specific for human CD81, which is expressed on most tissues except red blood cells and platelets.
Target Information
CD81 (TAPA-1, target of anti-proliferative antibody-1) is a member of the tetraspanin family expressed on most nucleated cells, particularly germinal center B cells.
It forms complexes with tetraspanins, integrins, coreceptors, and MHC molecules, influencing adhesion, activation, proliferation, and differentiation of B and T cells.
In muscle cells, CD81 promotes cell fusion and myotube maintenance. It also acts as a receptor for hepatitis C virus.
CD81 associates with CD19, CD21, Leu 13, and integrins, and antibodies against CD81 show anti-proliferative effects on lymphoid cell lines.
CD81 is located in a tumor-suppressor gene region and is considered a candidate gene for malignancies.
