PPP2R2B는 B55 서브패밀리의 베타 아이소폼을 암호화하며, 돌연변이는 상염색체 우성 척수소뇌실조증 12형(SCA12)을 유발합니다. SCA12는 소뇌 퇴화로 인한 언어 및 운동 조정 장애를 특징으로 합니다. 일부 변이체의 5’ UTR에는 CAG 삼염기 반복 서열(7–28회)이 존재하며, SCA12에서는 66–78회로 확장될 수 있습니다.
