Target Information
BCL-2는 세포사멸(apoptosis)의 주요 조절 인자로, 세포 사멸을 억제하거나 촉진하는 역할을 한다. BCL-2 패밀리 단백질들은 서로 이합체를 형성하여 세포사멸 조절을 더욱 정교하게 수행한다. 예를 들어, Bag1은 BCL-2와 이합체를 형성하여 BCL-2의 항세포사멸 효과를 강화한다. 반면 Bax와 Bak은 미토콘드리아로부터 cytochrome c 방출을 유도하여 세포사멸을 촉진한다.
BCL2 유전자의 지속적 발현(예: Ig heavy chain locus로의 전좌)은 여포성 림프종의 원인으로 알려져 있다. 대부분의 여포성 림프종은 높은 수준의 BCL-2 알파 단백질을 발현하지만, 정상 또는 과형성의 배중심은 음성이다.
BCL-2는 두 가지 전사 변이체를 가지며, 이들은 C-말단에서 차이를 보인다. BCL-2의 과발현은 B세포 림프종 및 전립선암 등 다양한 인체 암과 관련이 있다.
