PNMT 유전자는 catecholamine 생합성 경로의 마지막 단계를 촉매하여 norepinephrine을 epinephrine(아드레날린)으로 메틸화하는 효소를 생성합니다. 또한 beta-carboline 2N-methyltransferase 활성을 가지며, epinephrine 생산 조절에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
