Target Information
Steroid receptors are ligand-dependent intracellular proteins that regulate transcription of specific genes upon activation by hormones. Before activation, they associate with various proteins, including heat shock proteins (HSP70, HSP90), immunophilins (FKBP52, FKBP54, CyP-40), and other co-chaperones such as p23, p60, and p48.
p23 is part of a transient complex with HSP70, HSP90, and progesterone receptor (PR). The human p23 protein consists of 160 amino acids, highly conserved across species, and functions as a phosphoprotein with multiple phosphorylation sites. It binds HSP90 and is essential for the interaction between HSP90, CyP-40, and PR, playing a key role in PR function.
