Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the large DEAD-box protein family, defined by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif, and exhibits ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity. It shows RNA-independent ATPase activity, and unlike most DEAD-box helicases, its ATPase activity is stimulated by both RNA and DNA. This protein functions in both the nucleus and cytoplasm, participating in transcriptional regulation, mRNP assembly, pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export, translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication. Dysregulation of this gene has been implicated in tumorigenesis. A paralog exists on the Y chromosome, and pseudogenes related to both this gene and DDX3Y are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
