Target Information
PTGS1 (COX1, Cyclooxygenase 1) is a key enzyme in prostaglandin biosynthesis, functioning as both a dioxygenase and a peroxidase. There are two PTGS isozymes: constitutive PTGS1 and inducible PTGS2, differing in regulation and tissue distribution. PTGS1 regulates angiogenesis in endothelial cells and is inhibited by NSAIDs such as aspirin. It is involved in cell-cell signaling and maintaining tissue homeostasis. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants with differential regulation by cytokines and growth factors.
