EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase activated by various growth factors. Overexpression is associated with multiple cancers.
EGFR gene is located on chromosome 7 and belongs to the HER/ERbB family (ERbB2, ERbB3, ERbB4).
Ligand binding (e.g., EGF, TGFα) induces receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation at tyrosine residues.
Overexpression observed in tumors of head and neck, brain, bladder, stomach, breast, lung, endometrium, cervix, vulva, ovary, esophagus, and squamous cell carcinoma.
