Target Information
CHEK1 (CHK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in preventing replication when DNA integrity is compromised. It functions as a key mediator in the DNA damage-induced checkpoint network, ensuring genomic integrity under genotoxic stress. Inhibition of CHK1 can abrogate the G2 or S checkpoint, leading to mitotic catastrophe and apoptosis in p53-deficient cancer cells, while normal cells remain arrested in the G1 phase. Therefore, CHK1 is an attractive therapeutic target for cancer treatment, particularly in p53-deficient tumors.
