Target Information

SCUBE3 is a member of a family of secreted glycoproteins containing N-terminal EGF-like repeats, C-terminal cysteine-rich motifs, and a CUB domain. It is highly expressed in primary osteoblasts and bones, and to a lesser extent in the heart.
Overexpression of SCUBE3 in mice has been shown to induce cardiac hypertrophy, suggesting a role in cardiac growth regulation. SCUBE3 functions as an endogenous TGF-Beta receptor ligand and may promote lung cancer cell mobility and invasiveness. In lung cancer cells, SCUBE3 is cleaved by MMP2 and MMP9, activating the TGF-Beta receptor, increasing Smad2/3 transcriptional activity, and upregulating proteins such as TGF-Beta1, VEGF, Snail, and Slug.
