Cysteine protease ATG4B는 ATG4B 유전자에 의해 발현되는 효소로, 세포 항상성 유지에 중요한 오토파지 과정에 관여합니다. ATG4B는 ATG8 계열 단백질(MAP1LC3, GABARAPL1, GABARAPL2, GABARAP)의 C-말단 아미노산을 절단하여 글라이신 잔기를 노출시킵니다. 이 글라이신은 ATG8 단백질이 phosphatidylethanolamine(PE)과 결합하여 막에 삽입되는 데 필수적입니다. ATG4B는 주로 골격근, 뇌, 심장, 간, 췌장에서 발현됩니다.
