Target Information

CD73 (Ecto-5'-nucleotidase, 5'-ribonucleotide phosphohydrolase) catalyzes the conversion of purine 5'-mononucleotides to nucleosides at neutral pH, with AMP as the preferred substrate. It forms a dimer of two identical 70 kDa subunits attached to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol linkage. CD73 serves as a marker of lymphocyte differentiation, and its deficiency is linked to various immunodeficiency diseases. Other 5'-nucleotidase isoforms exist in cytoplasm and lysosomes, distinguishable by substrate specificity, cofactor requirements, and inhibitor sensitivity. The CD73 gene is located on chromosome 6q14–q21, and defects in this gene are associated with joint and arterial calcification and intestinal tuberculosis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
