Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates downstream target genes involved in growth, survival, and other cellular functions. The protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 in its kinase-inducible domain by various kinases, enhancing its transactivation and transcriptional activities, and promoting cell transformation.
Chromosomal translocations involving this gene with FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) generate chimeric proteins associated with angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma.
A pseudogene is located on chromosome 6.
