Target Information
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are highly conserved and abundantly expressed proteins involved in diverse cellular functions such as protein folding, assembly of multiprotein complexes, and transport of nascent polypeptides.
They are classified into six major families: HSP90, HSP70, HSP60, low molecular weight HSPs, immunophilins, and HSP110.
The low molecular weight family includes HSP10, HSP20, HSP27 (Heme Oxygenase 1), HSP32, and HSP40.
Chaperonins, including E. coli GroEL and GroES (HSP10), assist in ATP-dependent protein folding, forming a heptameric ring of identical 10 kDa subunits that bind to each end of GroEL to form a functional heterodimer.
