Target Information
Expression of the midnolin gene is developmentally regulated; it is strongly expressed in the mesencephalon (midbrain) of E12.5 embryos in mice.
The midnolin encodes a 508-amino-acid protein containing a ubiquitin-like domain. Studies using midnolin-GFP fusion proteins show localization in the nucleus and nucleolus, but not in the cytoplasm.
The nucleolar localization signal is a 28aa peptide located at the C-terminal region.
May be involved in regulation of genes related to neurogenesis in the nucleolus.
