Product Description

Norgen’s Saliva DNA Collection and Preservation Devices are designed for simple and non-invasive saliva collection and long-term preservation of DNA at ambient temperature.
Saliva samples are collected in the Collection Funnel and Tube. After collection, the Preservative Ampoule contents are added and mixed. The preserved sample can then be shipped safely to a laboratory for DNA isolation using Norgen’s Saliva DNA Isolation Kit (Cat. RU45400).
Each collection tube carries a unique serial number for secure and anonymous sample tracking. DNA remains stable for up to 6 years at room temperature, making this kit ideal for epidemiological and population studies.

Saliva DNA Preservative

Norgen’s Saliva DNA Preservative is an aqueous buffer formulated for rapid cellular lysis and long-term DNA preservation. It inhibits bacterial and fungal growth, inactivates viruses, and allows safe handling and shipping of non-infectious samples.
Samples can be stored for up to 6 years without detectable DNA degradation.

Each device includes:

• Saliva Collection Funnel and Tube
• Collection Tube Cap
• Preservative Ampoule (sealed, squeezable)

DNA Isolation from Preservative

Before isolation:

1. Vortex preserved saliva for 10 seconds.
2. Incubate at 55°C for one hour.

DNA can then be isolated using any commercial method, including:

• Saliva DNA Isolation Kit (RU45400)
• Saliva DNA Isolation 96-Well Kit (RU35200)
• Saliva DNA Isolation Kit (Magnetic Bead System) (RU55400, RU62900)
• Saliva DNA Isolation Reagent Kit (RU35720)

Purified DNA is suitable for PCR, NGS, and microarray analysis.

Saliva samples were mixed with preservative and stored at room temperature for up to 75 months. DNA was isolated periodically and visualized on agarose gel. No degradation observed; DNA size remained >24 kb.
