Target Information
Histone H2A.X (H2AX) is a member of the histone H2A family, one of the four core histones forming the nucleosome core particle.
DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) trigger phosphorylation of serine 139 at the carboxy terminus, forming γ-H2AX, which can be detected by Western blotting or immunofluorescence.
Phosphorylation is mediated by phosphatidylinositol 3-kinases, possibly ATM, DNA-PK, or ATR.
H2A.X contains 143 amino acid residues and is synthesized during G1 and S-phase.
Two mRNA forms exist: a short replication-type (575 bases) and a long basal-type (1600 bases).
Histone H2A.X maps to chromosome 11q23.2-q23.3 and contributes to DNA structural integrity and repair processes.
